Musical Lexicon – “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” – My Answers

6 Feb

For those of you just tuning in, a few days ago I posted a list of words and asked you, the reader, to find songs that use those words. I promised you that I’d also take the challenge and would post up my list. So, here’s what I came up with for the first list, complete with the lines in question.

Topic – Colors

Red

Paint it Black – The Rolling Stones

“I see a red door and I want it painted black”

Orange

Daniel Cowman – Regina Spektor

“I was in the corner with my pants down, and I was sure someone next door was blowing up balloons and they were red and orange.”

Yellow

Purple Pills – Eminem and D12

“Nothing compares to these blue and yellow purple pills.”

Green

From a Balance Beam – Bright Eyes

“I’ll cut out my lover’s tongue and sing of a graveyard grey and garden green.”

Blue

Red Red Rose – The Weepies

“Favorite color isn’t red it’s blue, blue, blue.”

Purple/Violet

Purple People Eater – Sheb Wooley

“It was a one-eyed, one-horned flying purple people eater”

Black

No Such Thing – John Mayer

“Take a seat, take your life. Plot it out  in black and white.”

Grey

California Dreamin’ – The Mamas and the Papas

“All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey.”

White

Girl’s Not Grey – AFI

“What follows me as the whitest lace of light?”

As you can see, I tried to be clever and pick songs with different colors in their titles.  Also, I’m kinda surprised nobody’s list had “Yellow” by Coldplay or “Blue” by Eiffel 65.

I’ll have the next list up soon, maybe tomorrow.

Bonus: Another Entry for Red – Christina Aguilera’s Superbowl rendition of The Star Spangled Banner.

Or wait… did she skip that line?

That was so creative! How long did it take you to come up with all of that? Matt, we should have thought of a lot of those!

Can’t wait for the next one 🙂

Yeah. The “California Dreamin'” one was good. Next one should be fun.
