Musical Lexicon – “I Want a New Drug”

16 Feb

Wednesday again, so it’s time for your next challenge. This one is gonna be a little trickier than the previous topics; I don’t even have an answer for each word yet.

As Huey Lewis and the News have said before, in the song for which this topic is named, “I want a new drug!” For this challenge however, I want the old drugs you all are (hopefully not) familiar with. A quick reminder of the rules…

1) You can’t use the same song more than once, for any topic.

2) Within topics, you can’t use the same artist more than once.

3) The selected word has to be in the lyrics, but not necessarily in the title. If it’s in the title but not the lyrics, it doesn’t count.

4) You can look through your own music collection for help, but NO GOOGLE.

5) Variations or specific examples are acceptable (unless otherwise stated), but not preferred. (e.g. “Pistol” or “Guns” work if the word on the list is “Gun”)

For this challenge, the street slang names for drugs are acceptable. Just make sure the slang term is actually in reference to the drug in the song. Also, any sort of paraphernalia or apparatus works just as good, as long as the reference is explicit; not a veiled reference or a metaphor.

Today’s Topic – Drugs

As usual, super bonus points for anybody who posts a full list, but this is a trickier topic. Even if you only have 2 or 3 of them, feel free to post a comment with what you have. I’ll post up what I have in a few days.

Alcohol: “I Drink Alone” by George Thorogood

Tobacco: “Tobacco Road” by The Nashville Teens

Marijuana: “Last Dance with Mary Jane” by Tom Pretty

    Cocaine: “Cocaine” by Eric Clapton

Crack: “Lovers without Love” by Joshua James

    Heroin: “Heroin” by Velvet Underground

Pills: “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane

Can’t think of these drugs. Those two are quite tough.
