Celebrity Warship Culture Channels Post Punk Vibes In Latest Single

22 Sep

Rebirther by Celebrity Warship Culture channels some post punk vibes in their latest single. With Liam Scott leading the way within Celebrity Warship Culture, the ambient-new wave genre definitely comes through. The sounds of the keyboardist Todd Pickell, drummer Mark Pickell, and Trevor Gay on the guitar and contributing vocals all add something to the album. The song carries an intense feel from start to finish, intertwining the themes of religion and the idea of forgiveness within it as well. Musically Celebrity Worship Culture intertwines the perfect mix of new wave music, grunge, and light rock in their sound. When listeners draw comparisons to other artists, they can think and make connections to Lemuria, Meatloaf, and Neil Diamond. The wide range of their sound musically ranges from that new wave synth to the anthems of music that have the vocals carrying each song on the album.

Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame Induction – John Lennon Tribute – John Lennon Tribute?

16 Dec

John Lennon Look-Alike

Yes, I know what you are probably thinking. He repeats himself in the title. Well, let me explain myself.

Meet Street Corner Symphony. If you have been watching the Sing Off on NBC, then you are well acquainted with this Nashville sextet that combine good ol’ fashioned southern charm with funk elements in their music. No instruments. The show is pure A cappella, a style vocal-only music that has become a popular part of our musical culture again. Back in the 50s and 60s, A cappella style was a nice sized part of the musical culture. Well, then again, what wasn’t available on the musical dinner plate.

The Sing Off is really the only show I watch and it definitely is the only reality show I find myself viewing. There are a few reasons for this. The talent is extraordinary for any music lover. Unlike American Idol or any other singing show, this pins intelligent musicians who have mastery over their voices and vocal choreography against each other in a short format. The show runs for only a couple of weeks in 2-hour episodes. Next Monday is the finale. Yeah, so instead of suffering through Months of American Idol, you receive quick results and don’t get sick of the judges. I also like the show because Ben Folds is a judge. ‘Nuff said.

Street Corner Symphony is one of the four bands that will be in attendance at the finale. America now votes on who wins. They are not my favorite, but they still are tremendously talented…and one of their members may be a reincarnated John Lennon.

If the picture is not enough. This was taken during their Beatles' medley!

Scary. Judge Shawn Stockman finally acknowledged the underlying thought in every viewers mind after this performance by saying that Richie Lister (playing the part of John Lennon above) really looks like Lennon and it was scaring the hell out of him. You are not alone Mr. Stockman.

Tweedy Lennon

In other John Lennon related news, Wilco lead singer, Jeff Tweedy, made a surprise appearance at an Autumn Defense show. Autumn Defense is the side-project of two Wilco multi-instrumentalists. Tweedy played Lennon’s “God” to honor Lennon on the anniversary of his death (Dec. 8).

Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

School’s out for sweet Caroline. Alice Cooper and Neil Diamond are Cleveland-bound and ready to suit up for the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

Cooper and Diamond will be joined by Tom Waits, Darlene Love and Dr. John as they are all honored on March 14. Congrats to the inductees.

A New Look to the Classic Court Links

30 Nov

I like revamping old-school blog entries just for the sake of wanting change. Today, I sat a row closer to the front of my English classroom just for a change and most of those who usually sit around me, followed me and adjusted to my change. Those who generally sit next to me in the fourth row sat with me in the third row. And, those who sit a row in front of me in row three sat in row two. Seriously, people are creature’s of habit and are susceptible to being tricked. So, hopefully this slight change to court links won’t freak you out so much. Don’t worry, I am not going to trick you. Court Links will be split into three sections tonight (Random Video, What Did You Say and Awesome Link)

We start with:

What Did You Say?:

Headline: Abba star loses bankruptcy dispute with Buddhist Monk

Well, I guess I won’t be taking a chance on her. Here is what I have been able to gather from this odd story. Former Abba-er Anni-Frid Reuss brought a bankruptcy order, which is an order issued by the court as a result of a petition for bankruptcy by either a creditor or a debtor in order to declare an individual bankrupt, against her former Buddhist teacher. Alright, so we are clear. No. Well, trust me I shook my head also. Well her, and her boyfriend Henry Smith, lost the dispute. But, have no fear, the lifestyle of this particular member of the rich and famous is not changing anytime soon. The 4.5 million euros she lost is mere pocket change. She is worth somewhere around 100 million euros. Moral of the story. Don’t sue monks. They have super powers. (Disclaimer…In no way does the Music Court support the claim that monks actually have super powers).

We are going to stick with Abba, because, why not? Here is a really nice acoustic instrumental of “Dancing Queen.” Just because you know enough words to sing along does not make you a loser!

Rolling Stone Magazine has been running this amazing playlist special where they ask famous musicians to pick their personal top 10. May I present to you Art Garfunkel‘s Top 10

“Killer Joe” by the Rocky Fellers. Wow, that is an obscure early 60s rock band made up of children. Yes, they were all kids. This was one of those bands that will never be remembered because they were overtaken by the British invasion. They were talented. “Killer Joe,” by Bert Russell and Bob Elgin, reached #16 on the charts in 1963. This band of Filipino brothers also possess a very interesting fun fact.

Did you know that in 1963, the Fellers recorded “Santa, Santa,” a Christmas song written by a 22-year-old, unknown Neil Diamond.

I Now Pronounce You: Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame Worthy

29 Sep

It’s the story of the Hall of Fame. One already inducted rock ‘n’ roller unexpectedly makes a dream come true as other rock ‘n’ roll all-stars wait to possibly hear their name announced at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame induction. Let’s start with the lounger.

Hey...isn't that Bruce Springsteen

That question (look at picture) was on the mind of Ed Dwyer, his fiance Jennifer Smith, and his friend as they were participating in an engagement photo shoot on the beach of Manasquan, New Jersey. Dwyer, a musician, happened to be strumming his guitar on the beach and Springsteen, who actually was sitting on a bench close to the beach, took an interest in the 32-year-old musician.

“”Bruce said to Ed, ‘Play that box,’ said Smith. “Ed’s reaction was, ‘No, you’re Bruce Springsteen, so, here, you play.’ ”

So, that is what he did. The couple got the opportunity to just chill with Bruce Springsteen and take a few laid-back engagement photos with him. According to Dwyer, Springsteen was “laid back and chill”

Bruce even fooled the photographer initially. “He just looked like this really cool guy hanging out on a bench at sunset with friends,” Kella MacPhee said.

That is just amazing. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Occasionally, these awesome events happen and I hope musicians understand that they can make someone’s life. This couple now has pictures and a story that will last them a lifetime. Springsteen acted like a true professional and I am sure he had some fun with them. Talk about those:

The king of New Jersey, Bruce Springsteen, has already been inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame (which is pictured above). The nominations for the 2011 class has been released and on it is what many people consider to be the prince of New Jersey, Bob Jovi.

The list includes first-time nominees, Jovi, Donovan, Alice Cooper, Dr. John and Neil Diamond.

Also on this list is, Tom Waits, the Beastie Boys, Chic, Donna Summer, LL Cool J and a few more.

Artists first become eligible for nomination 25 years after the release of their first single or album. The 2011 inductees will be announced in December and the induction ceremony will be held at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan on March 14.

Out of all of the nominees, I think the only lock is Bon Jovi…no surprise there. I do hope that Cooper is inducted. He deserves the respect.
