Court Links: Props to the Photographers

14 Nov

"No Respect"

Three hours of my Saturday was spent on a mad internship search for the summer of 2010. My results. Applied to one, sent e-mails to around ten, listed three for future applications. Man, by the end of this I’d be willing to intern at The Music Court. Oh right, I already sort of am. Anyway, internship searches are hard work and often meet failures, leading me to quote Mr. Dangerfield and proclaim that those places have “No respect”

You know who else gets no respect, photographers. Yes, those rock photographers that have snapped the most famous photos of musicians. We all know that, that is Bob Dylan and that is Jimi Hendrix burning his guitar, but who took the picture. Want to find out.

Check out this link to the story of some of the most known photos of rock n’ roll. The list has been graciously provided by Rolling Stone Magazine, who I e-mailed so please get back to me

Court Links: Easybeats and Awesome Beats

13 Nov

The Easybeats

Happy Friday. In honor of the fantastic fact that it is indeed friday I thought I would provide you with a great song about the monotony of a work week and the coming of friday. The song is “Friday on My Mind,” by The Easybeats. Ever hear of them? Well, I am sure you heard of the rhythm guitarists younger brothers. But, before we get to that, The Easybeats are highly regarded as the best 60’s pop band from Australia. Seems like a pretty select bunch, but, they actually are a very good band who do not get as much credit as they deserve. “Friday on my Mind,” was a worldwide hit in 1966, obviously shooting to #1 in Australia, as well as #6 in the UK and #16 in the U.S. In 2001 it was voted the best Australian song of all time by the Australasian Performing Right Association, beating out such Australia performers as Savage Garden. Bravo! I kid, their music is actually great and you should celebrate friday by checking out this song

By the way, the rhythm guitarist was George Young. They are Australian. What other Young Australians do you know. How about the tag team duo of Angus and Malcolm that were in that band AC/DC. Yeah, those are his younger brothers. Talk about being overshadowed by your younger siblings even when you were quite possibly in the band that created the best Australian song. Well, I guess AC/DC is probably considered the best band.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

In other news, The Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform live for the first time since their 2008 announcement of a hiatus at a charity tribute to singer Neil Young, just adding their name to the list of performers who come together for charity gigs. The January 29th concert will also include Crosby Still & Nash who will most likely beg Young to make the band a foursome and then succumb to the new band title Neil Young and those other guys.

Court Links: Dhani Harrison and Steven Tyler

9 Nov

An interesting combination of links to keep your day rolling well. Dhani Harrison, son of Beatle George Harrison, who also looks incredibly like George (probably because he is George’s son) is taking a large role in working on the next Rock Band (Rock Band 3). Now, I am working under the impression that Dhani can practically do anything he wants because of who is father is. Here is how I think the interview went with the Rock Band employers

Dhani: So, I really believe I can bring a lot to the manufacturing of the game

Employers: Can I have your autograph?

Anyway though, Dhani longs to make the controllers more real so people can actually learn a little about playing instruments, while playing the game. Cool. But, I don’t believe people play Grand Theft Auto to learn how to kill people and solicit drugs. Maybe video games should be left to what they are, and that is fake releases from the real world.

Wow, he really looks like George

In other news, Steven Tyler may be leaving Aerosmith after their current tour to explore solo opportunities. What does this mean? Aerosmith tour next year.

Court Links: Some of the Old Time Rock n’ Roll

6 Nov

When Bob Seger sang in his deep croon that he just wanted some old time rock n’ roll, I must believe that many patrons of rock agreed with him. I certainly like to listen to the song and belt out the chorus in some sort of rebellion of modern hip hop and rap. For today’s court links I thought I would focus on two of these rockers embodied in Seger’s song, John Fogerty and Bruce Springsteen.

Bruce Springsteen

Springsteen, who turned sixty this past September, is reportedly at work on an autobiography, according to spinner.com. According to those in the publishing business, rights for the autobiography may reach 9-10 million for one lucky publishing company. Why so much money? Think about it. It is Bruce Springsteen, the American rocker. Many people would not mind picking up a book written by him. Funny point in the article where an anonymous source calls Springsteen a better writer than his unofficial historian. Not that it is any bit surprising that someone who has kind of experienced his own life first hand can probably do himself a little better justice.

John Fogerty

And, if Springsteen does not represent some of Seger’s “funky old soul,” take a listen to John Fogerty, who, according to an interview with Billboard.com is beginning to go back to the roots. “I really feel that the next recording project will probably certainly be rock ‘n’ roll and my traditional rock ‘n’ roll sounding vibe,” Fogerty said.

Fogerty, who once recorded almost daily hits with his band Creedence Clearwater Revival, is back in the studio working on some of that old time rock n’ roll.

Court Links: Sex, Jagger and The Beatles

2 Nov

I hope everyone’s Halloween was safe and fun, but now it is time to get dangerous again with this monday’s Court Links. As I searched the internet for suitable links I came across two, one fairy humerous, one absolutely disturbing. Both, which, spark the title of the post.

Mick Jagger has had a lot of relations with women and plastic surgery. Surprised? Neither was I. One of those women that explored the Jagger has recently come out with a book about her groupie relations with several famous rockers, including Mick. In it she has joked that the job description of personal assistant to The Rolling Stones should have included sleep with Mick whenever he asks, which, she did.

Also, because everyone loves flow charts, I have one of the more literal music one’s from loveallthis.tumblr.com. Great Job guys, gave me a good laugh
