Court Links: Elvis Hair

13 Oct

First, let me apologize for the lack of posting over the last few days. As many of you may be aware, we are college students over here at the Music Court and unfortunately, mid-term’s are here and studying/essay writing is taking up the majority of our time. Well, I promise you that for today, along with this post, there will be at least two other posts by the other jesters over here. Josh will be posting his defense for Eric Clapton on the poll and Anthony will be making his glorious re-return to the blog with a visual music (Hooray!).

We will be doing our best over the next few days to provide you with some awesome music coverage and I hope that soon enough I will be able to put another lyricist of the top 100 list and write a review of the new Mountain Goats CD (if I ever get around to listening to it). Yet, while you wait for Josh’s and Anthony’s post here is an interesting link: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20311751,00.html

For the small fee of around 100,000 dollars a clump of Elvis’s hair can be yours. Why? Well, for me I would like it for my combination clone researching where I plan on combining Elvis with Jim Morrison. Why would you want Elvis’s hair. Comment below.

Bob Dylan

No, Bob Dylan (or Robert Zimmerman) is not on the list, nor, would anyone have the guts to put him on the list. But, as much as I am a huge fan of one of the most celebrated figures of music history, I will not be fooled. Let me educate some who do not know. Zimmerman was born in Duluth, Minnesota, where his parents Abram Zimmerman and Betty Stone originally started raising Bob in a small, tight-knit, Jewish community. Listen to Bob Dylan’s southern twang. Listen to his almost incomprehensible croon. I will be among the many Dylan fans who know this fact but keep it hidden inside. That is not his voice. Yet, after years of performing with it and talking with it in daily life, who am I to say that he has not adopted it as his voice.

Here is the list: http://www.spinner.com/2009/10/07/fake-accents?icid=main|main|dl2|link3|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spinner.com%2F2009%2F10%2F07%2Ffake-accents

Court Polls: Who is the Greatest Guitarist of all Time?

8 Oct

Guitar Picks

I am in the new category mood. Also, I am rather busy tonight and wanted to put something up that was nice and easy. I did not say that did I. Well, if the above title does not give you any indication about what is going on here you should probably look again. Easy enough. I am going to post a list of names below of the most fantastic guitarists, in my opinion, of all time. What do you have to do? Vote which one is the best. Think I forgot someone or you want to defend your point; just comment and let me know what you think. I am looking forward to all of your responses.

New polls can be created at anytime and anytime a poll is created I, or whoever posts the poll will let you know who my/or their pick is. An explanation of why will follow in a day or two after the posting. Cool? Cool!

Why am I starting with this impossible question? Well, this is one of those questions which has no answer. There are a few guitarists who are the best in different ways. There are a lot of things that go into a player. Feeling, precision, speed, accuracy, sound. So, with this one you may want to prove yourself below. Today, Josh, who is an Eric Clapton supporter showed me an amazing video, which he may post sometime soon (maybe even in a response to the poll) which may prove Clapton to be the best. Personally, my pick is Jimi Hendrix. I will tell you why soon. So, tell us what you think.

Lyrics #8

8 Oct

Hey everyone.

Here comes lyric #8. If you have been watching your recommended dosage of television, you will probably know this.

“You’re the only reason I keep on coming home.”

hint: If you took a lot of this type of legume and cut it into two equal parts and boiled them and added spices, and perhaps some pieces of hot dogs, you would have a very popular soup.

Answer: Sweet Pea, by Amos Lee

New Band Palace (It’s Back!): With the Punches

7 Oct
And Improved...

And Improved...

Do you remember when I mentioned that there was a possibly that I would bring back an old category eventually. Well, tonight is the night, for the grand re-unveiling of The New Band Palace. The premise of the category was send all your new band information to musiccourt@gmail.com (i.e. myspace page, band info). At the end of two weeks I would listen to each band that sended me their info (This worked quite well. I received one band and I am not even entirely sure if it was intentional) and then pick the best of the bunch and profile them for publicity on the blog. There was one problem. I got no bands. Simple as that. The category collapsed and that was that.

Well, here I am telling you that the New Music Palace section in the grand multi-layered castle of the Music Court is back. It is open for business once again. What does this mean? You have a new band struggling to get attention. Well, I get a fair share of viewers a day that may want to check out your music. Send what you got to musiccourt@gmail.com and if I get your info you may be a post in 2 weeks. The reason for the sudden appearance of this once antiquated section is kind of funny.

A little bird notified me today that my old Middle/High School bowling coach’s son is in a pop/punk band touring the United States. I have known Mr. Hecht since I was around 12-13 years old. I am 20 now. Therefore, if I hear his son is in a band I will profile it. It is just as easy as that.

With the Punches

So, you have a few second? Well you are on the blog so I will assume yes, or you are just procrastinating slightly (okay, maybe a lot). Check out: http://www.myspace.com/withthepunches. I would suggest listening to the first song, “Burned at Both Ends,” which mixes the classic pop/punk sound with this interesting Boston anthem-like feel. By creating this semi-variation on an otherwise tried genre of music, With The Punches represents a new style of punk quite well. I am impressed. But, I would like to challenge him to a bowling game. He may make better music than I, but, can he get the ball in the pocket better. Well, his father is Mr. Hecht, so probably. Dam!

Bowling

Still, check out their music, and enjoy! Congrats to With the Punches and good luck with the rest of the tour.
