Hi Mr. Coleman,
Very interesting blog-site. What are your thoughts on “Do you hear what I hear?” by Bobby Vinton? (http://www.leoslyrics.com/bobby-vinton/do-you-hear-what-i-hear-lyrics/ ). It is an old song that has been used by various modern singers: Carrie Underwood, Bing Crosby, Destiny’s Child. To me, a song is just a song. Without the written lyrics, I would imagine/picture the words in my mind. Anyway, it is how the song “sounds and feels” that makes me want to listen over and over again. My sister would listen to any song once and know it word for word. To hear is to be able to understand the melody. To listen is to be able to understand both the melody and words.
Merry Christmas!
Dr. Roback
Yes, I’ve always enjoyed Bobby Vinton’s work. He has a wonderful voice. I do agree with you. Listening to a song and getting the opportunity to enjoy the melody and understand the message of the lyric is certainly a treat and is truly needed to “get” the message that the singer/songwriter is attempting to portray.
I nominated you for an award, cause you deserve it. The info is here and what to do with it. It is kind of a chain letter, but in a good way. http://joebeans2002.wordpress.com/2011/12/29/hey-ma-im-a-versatile-blogger/
