A couple of really cool versions of horrible songs. Horrible like “Poker Face,” by Lady (Ultimate) GaGa and “Toxic,” by Brittany Spears. So, how did they turn really awesome. How about a full talented orchestra and a Jazz Trio. Well, now I can say I enjoy the songs (just not the versions everyone thinks of).

Today’s lyric of the day is from a Sweedish folk singer of Argentinian descent. Wow that is a moutful of interesting combinations. But, music is music and he is fantastic. His soft vocals mixed with a melodic acoustic guitar make him something special. Not to mention, he also is a pretty solid lyricist. “Down the Line,” comes off of his second album In Our Nature. Interesting song and album. Here are some lyrics:

In December of 1968 the Rolling Stones orchestrated a concert event entitled “The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus,” and were completely out performed by The Who. The footage from the concert was actually delayed release (until 1996) 28 YEARS LATER because of The Who’s mastery performance. It is in this footage where we get our combo song/link of the day. The Who performing their hit/mini opera “A Quick One,” in front of an appropriately dressed circus crowd.
Pete Townshend, always known for his flare, has called this song a mini opera. I am not kidding. It is indeed an epic song with six sections so Townshend’s title does make sense. Personally, I love the harmonized first section which is sung entirely a cappela. The song is also The Who’s first venture into the world of Rock Operas that they redefined with their release of Tommy.

Yesterday Paul McCartney stopped traffic and pulled many fans away from their jobs because of an amazing appearance on the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theatre at 5:30 pm. He had made an appearance on the David Letterman show where he was humerous and quirky like always. Videos of this historic event are on the link I am including. McCartney kicks off his three date Citi Field tour on my birthday, July 18th. I will be seeing him on the 21’st and I am so excited it is not even comparable. Enjoy the link!
