Court Links: Disturbing Guitar Faces and Paul McCartney

2 Oct

I enjoy posting link of the day segments because of the odd combinations the title suggests. This may be one of the oddest. But, just wait, it will make sense soon.

Start off your morning right with a hilarious list of the 10 most disturbing guitar faces. Every lead guitarist warps their face when they solo. Some close their eyes and look up to the sky like Eric Clapton and Eddie Van Halen. Some are surprised, some cry, some scream, some seem confused of what they want to play next…

Ahh...I guess I can take a cool run...

Want to see the rest. Check it out here http://www.guitarburn.com/2009/09/the-10-most-disturbing-guitar-faces/

Did any of you have the chance to see McCartney play at Citi Field? Well, simply, it was the most electric and awesome thing that came to Citi Field this year. Mets fan know what I am talking about. If you missed it, a CD/DVD will be coming out and I suggest you invest in it. Some of the best music and Paul McCartney at his most energetic. Court Links: Jimi Hendrix and Inspiring Music

24 Sep

Jimi Hendrix

Proving once again that dead musicians refuse to remain dead, Jimi Hendrix’s family has another decade of unreleased Jimi recordings. I don’t know but I have a wierd feeling that any musician who has died a suspicious death is living on a special music island making awesome music together in perfect harmony. I guess some people would call this heaven but I call it Music Island, this fall’s new reality show. Jimi’s family has several copies of each official bootleg that they keep in temperature controlled vaults. Seems a little extreme but, hey, I guess it really is precious material that I know I will end up listening to.

Link of the Day: Jay-Z and Elvis

Elvis and Jay-Z

Read the article and attempt not to throw up. I am not discrediting Jay-Z who has marketed himself fantastically in today’s musical cesspool but come on. This is like Barry Bonds breaking Hank Aaron’s home run record. Bonds was on steroids and Jay-Z is producing in a musically inept world. I apologize for my clear anger but I just do not see how this can be possible. Yet, I guess records are records and I can safely presume that fifty years from now the king of rock will still be in the forefront of people’s minds.

According the the article, “Meanwhile, Madonna has just notched up her 40th number one single in the US dance charts with Celebration.” Okay, you are now permitted to throw up. I just did.

Schedule for the Remainder of the Week/Links of the Day

16 Sep

After months of the existence of this blog we finally have a dual category post. I understand this is most likely not a big deal for anyone but me, but, I am a blog loser and hey you have to deal with me. Please don’t click off! Anyway, I wanted to use this post to outline out the rest of the blog week here at the music court. Things will run slightly differently and I will let you know why. Firstly, tonight’s post will only include some links for you to feast on. Tomorrow Josh will be presenting Lyric #3 in his Guess the Lyric series and I will be doing a special section that will profile one song by the Mountain Goats that I find amazing. The Mountain Goats are an eccentric folk rock band led by amazing lyricist John Darnielle (who will eventually be profiled in our top 100 lyricists section). On friday Anthony will be running a special flying Visual Music. You will see what that means friday. On Friday Anthony, our friend Foo (Marc), and myself will be traveling up to Ithaca to visit my brother at Cornell and see John Darnielle and The Mountain Goats. Since we will be staying there the entire weekend there will be no posting on Saturday or Sunday. I know I am crying to. But, we will be back on monday. I promise.

An incredibly creative and hilarious post highlighting the best of the worst in the 2000’s. The worst song in this decade so far? I will give you one clue. It is by two people and was released in 2006. Now enjoy the fifty: http://www.gigwise.com/photos/52402/50/The-50-Worst-Albums-Of-The-2000s

Link of the Day: Time Troubles and Steve Vai Amazingness

This is what the time is like on my blog

This is what the time is like on the blog

Okay, I have a question. It figures I just hit 5000 views today (thank you for the internet applause, I am internet bowing) and I am going to ask a question with such a simple answer. It is 11:51 eastern standard time right now. Yet, on the blog system I am well into tomorrow. Obviously, a bit of a problem because I will be able to get this post in before the clock strikes twelve and Cinderella leaves her slipper at the party and I do not have a post for the day of September 3rd. My question. How can I make the time, my time. Answers would be quite helpful.

Anyway, aside from my ignorance, I am tired. Long day and unfortunately no time for a song of the day. But, I promise a fresh song of the day on the morrow. But, until then, I have some pretty solid linkage for your voracious, music hungry minds. Let’s get to the link.

No, that is not a mutant guitar, spawn from the depths of some rock n’ roll nuclear holocaust. It is just Steve Vai being amazing like he always is. Three necks, three fret boards, three full-bodied electric guitars, and two hands, ten fingers. He just knows how to use them. Enjoy this awesome link. Interesting tid-bit of info, Vai took lessons from guitar master Joe Satriani. Man, these guys learn from the best don’t they.
