I took a bus down from New York City and came back home for Warped in Maryland. I luck out every year and get the gift of overcast weather, so pictures/general weather conditions are never as bad as they could be. This year I was fortunate enough to be able to photograph the tour, definitely a huge honor and the biggest event I’ve photographed to date. There was definitely more pop-punk than there has been in past years, totally expected considering the recent surge in popularity of bands in the genre. Not that I’m complaining.
The great (but also not so great thing) about Warped, at least on the Maryland date, is that most of the stages are outside, but the Main Stage is inside of a pavilion. This means switching back and forth between the harsh outdoor sun, then going back into typical dark concert lighting. Though outdoor lighting is always nice because you can shoot at speeds infinitely higher than usually possible in a typical dark venue, the sun can make for harsh highlights and over exposed pictures. But I accept the challenge and am super excited with how everything turned out!
I got to see almost everyone I wanted, but missed out on Ice Nine Kills, Neck Deep, State Champs, and The Ghost Inside due to schedule overlap. Bummer, but my memory cards probably thanked me for it! I took about 3000 pictures over 9 hours, so I posted some previews to hold you over until I publish full sets! Crowds were great, energy was high, and the bands were all amazing. Warped is always a fantastic experience, be you a veteran or first timer to the tour, and I always recommend going!
