Let’s All Just Dance

6 Jun

Hey folks. Hope your weekend was pleasant. Tomorrow, I begin my internship at Newsday (newspaper in New York). It is orientation and I am very excited. I may not have time to post tomorrow and this is why you are getting some online direction tonight. It is becoming tough to think of different words and adjectives for the links I post, by the way. Tomorrow, after I learn the schedule for my internship, I will finally be able to create a posting schedule for the summer. Hooray! It’s these simple things that get me so excited. And, after I make the schedule, I will let you all know what it is.

By the way, if any of you would like to read about my internship experience, you can follow me on my new blog project The Perennial Intern. On it, I will be posting about my internship on either a daily or weekly basis. I hope it will prove to be entertaining. Thanks in advance for visiting.

Now, on to some links.

You know what I have found quite danceable lately.

That’s right the new laudatory Nike commercial that pairs Kobe Bryant alongside other NBA greats. Do you recognize the song? That’s a clip from a Beatles’ song right? Yes myself, “All Together Now” appeared on Yellow Submarine. Who has an urge to watch “Yellow Submarine” right now? Anyway, that is not Paul McCartney leading the child-like sing-a-long. That is OutKast’s Andre 3000 reappearing on the music scene. Besides a few cameo appearances, Andre 3000 has not released on album since OutKast’s 2006 Idlewind soundtrack. I wonder if this version of “All Together Now” will be released in full. I’ll keep you updated.

Rooney preparing for the fifth position

I know someone else that may feel like dancing now. He certainly can dance with a soccer ball between his legs. Hopefully, for the United States’ sake, he will not want to dance after the U.S. meets England in their first match-up of the 2010 World Cup on June 12. I am talking about England’s star Wayne Rooney who, according to goalkeeper David James, is England’s best dancer. But, “Are there any good singers in the  England team? Rubbish! Absolute rubbish.” So, I have just found the weakness you need to exploit, America. I cannot believe James would reveal such a flaw in the English squad. We just need to serenade them with our mesmerizing choir and we are set. We just need to call on midfielder Clint Dempsey. I hope you’re taking notes Bob Bradley.

Paul McCartney is a Scared, but, Sharp Dressed Man

2 Jun

Because of a planned trip to Binghamton to pick up the keys to my new rented house and the out of place posts earlier this week, I have successfully messed up a schedule of posting that has worked for the past three months. Well, readers, do not be alarmed. On Monday, after I receive my much anticipated Internship schedule, I will be able to give you all a firm summer posting schedule. But, for now, please deal with the utter disorder of my random posting schedule. It is very entropic. Today, I come to you with the glorious return of some fresh court links. They are tasty.

Sir Paul McCartney certainly could not have been feeling so suave (like he looks above) just a few days ago, when a gang attacked his tour bus as it rolled through a part of Mexico City. The 67-year-old superstar was left “shaken up” according to a source, who also said, “At first his security team thought it was just swarms of fans but when people started scaling the bus, the situation changed in a flash.” Well, I guess fame does come with a price.

Youths forced the driver to stop and proceeded to jump up and down on the roof of the vehicle. This all occurred after McCartney’s gig at Foro Stadium at 1 a.m. this past Saturday. McCartney was unhurt.

The next item is not so much news, as it is just a crazy video. All I have to say is GIVE THIS MAN A DRUM SOLO

Lady Gaga wants to die in front of her fans…ZOMBIES

13 May

Lady Gaga, the incredibly eccentric pop musician who has utterly confused and enthused the music world, has recently told Various that she longs to perish while playing a show. “I would rather not die on vacation,” she said. “I’d rather die on-stage with all my fans.” Well, some people want their ashes scattered over the sea, or at a baseball stadium, but, Gaga wants to roma, roma-ma all over the stage. I wonder which song she would like to go out to. I am thinking “Poker Face.” Because, under her ode to a Stanley Kubrick masquerade ball, people won’t even know she is dead. They wont understand that what they are actually seeing is a Gaga ZOMBIE.

Gaga Zombie

Talking about zombies, BEATLES ZOMBIE! Remember Alan Goldsher’s graphic novel, “Paul is Undead: The British Zombie Invasion.” Yeah, neither do I. The book of fantastic illustrations (so I hear) depicts the Beatles as zombies. The book roughly depicts a mass Beatles murder by John Lennon, who after killing his band mates, goes on a zombie tour where the zombie Beatles must be on the lookout for ninja Yoko Ono and zombie hunter Mick Jagger. Wait, this is not the real story of The Beatles after the release of Abbey Road. Well, this absolutely hilarious idea has just been bought by two filmmakers. Yes, this may be made into a film. And, do you know what’s funny. I am more looking forward to this movie than Liam Gallagher’s serious Beatles’ film.

Note to Liam Gallagher: Leave the Beatles Alone

Another day, another news article linking Liam Gallagher to the Beatles. After Oasis’ seventh and final studio album Dig Out Your Soul succeeded in consciously being a mock Beatles’ album, Gallagher is now embarking on a journey into Beatles film, buying the rights to The Longest Cocktail Party, which tells the behind-the-scenes story of the Beatles’ Apple empire.

When Ben Folds first played his keys on the music scene he was immediately compared to piano men like Elton John and Billy Joel. He responded by completely rejecting the comparison, and even going so far as poking fun at them. When the British fab four (five) part II came onto the music scene in 1991, they to were given the ultimate comparison to a budding Beatles. Yet, instead of rejecting this obviously false claim, they played right into it and eventually succumbed to the trap of constantly trying to be the Beatles. I am not claiming this is bad. Their music is catchy pop/rock and I enjoy some of it, but, come on Oasis (especially Liam Gallagher), leave the Beatles alone.

Gallagher’s recently formed “In 1 Productions” announced a few days ago that they plan to produce and develop a feature film based on Richard DeLello’s book.

It is unclear what role Gallagher will play, but, I doubt it will be anything minor. Gallagher probably cannot wait to get his hands on making this movie and, well, who could blame him? If you have it flaunt it right. At least we can be assured he will make the Beatles look good.

On to some honorable news. Chicago, the incredibly successful veteran rock n’roll band, has recently teamed up with the American Cancer Society for a new promotion called “Sing with Chicago.” On Ebay, fans can bid on a special prize package that includes two tickets to a Chicago concert during their current U.S. tour and an opportunity to sing their hit 1976 song ‘If You Leave Me Now’ at the show on stage with them. Bids start at $500, or you can just bypass all of the bidding and buy the package for $1500. This is awesome. I always enjoy seeing worldly musicians giving back, and this charity is both creative and kind-hearted. A big tip of my hat (to quote Stephen Colbert) to the members of Chicago.

The Rolling Stones did drugs

6 May

This is somewhat similar to a past post about Willie Nelson and his marijuana usage.

In an interview with Absolute Radio, Sir Mick Jagger, the Rolling Stones’ eccentric frontman, said that the pervasive usage of drugs did not thwart the band’s ability to write and play great music. According to Jagger, the party atmosphere actually helped inspire a lot of music, specifically the 1972 album, Exile on Main Street

He said in the interview, “That was a period of time when everyone took loads of drugs, it was very fashionable, but I mean, we did a lot of hard work as well, so it was a bit of a party atmosphere, loads of visitors, you know, there was a lot of drugs floating around, but not everyone was completely out of it all the time and we did a lot of good tracks, you know.”

And, the sky is blue. Everyone knows that the Rolling Stones delved in narcotics. But, I guess it is good to hear it from Jagger himself. I do like how artists like Jagger and Nelson are so open. I think that is what a lot of artists today lack. Today, artists live very private lifestyles where paparazzi continually tails them and pokes fun at every blunder they make. I am not saying it was different 40 years ago, but, I just believe the musicians back in those years were of a different breed. They played into the media frenzy better. Many also took a massive amount of drugs.
