Court Links: Beatles Domination and Tuesday Album Releases

26 Oct

Beatles

Do the Beatles ever lose? Even post-band they continue to make bazillions of bucks (that is real money in Beatles terms) and they continue to also demand respect from all music listeners. Anyone who says they do not like the Beatles is lying. Their wide catalog and musical diversity permits the enjoyment of at least one song by anyone who has ever heard a note of music. Apparently, the Beatles cannot even lose when it comes to video games. The Beatles Rock Band has beaten Guitar Hero 5’s sales by selling around 100,000 copies more. It’s not like anyone expected differently.

Court Links: Jack White: Smart/Stupid and Google Fame

Jack White

Good afternoon loyal court viewers and those that have just arrived at the court. We jesters welcome you. I want your opinion on this one for my opinion is biased. Read this article: http://www.nme.com/news/the-white-stripes/47903. I am specifically focusing on the segment about Dylan where Mr. White says that they might not be as authentic as once thought. Okay, since I made an argument a couple of days ago that Dylan’s singing was completely put on (I believe he has put on the voice so often it has become his actual voice) because it did not match up with his roots, this may be coming from left field, but, as much as I made that argument out of humor, this comment by White is sort of blasphemous in the music world. I love philisophical music talk and Jack White is a talented guy, but throwing Dylan and Waits, two incredible musicians, into this category of non-authentic is kind of odd. I have to disagree. Dylan is maybe one of the only musicians who is authentic. He changed when he wanted to change and he did what he wanted to do. Thoughts?

Also, go search The Music Court on Google. Trust me? Or search Music Court on google. As of a few days ago we were sitting at #5 on google, but, as of today, the first time I have checked since a few days ago, we are #1 with The Music Court searches and #3 with Music Court. Why? Because, of you guys. We will keep on posting because we love to do it, but you, the readers are what is giving us a purpose. So, for that, thank you.

Court Link/Weekend Schedule: Evidence of the End of World

16 Oct

The Music Court is becoming organized and absolutely immature at the same time in this one post. The weekend schedule presently looks like this. Today I may be posting my response to Josh’s Eric Clapton defense. I will be defending Jimi Hendrix as the greatest guitarist of all time. While, yes, I do agree with Josh in most of his analysis, I want to present a few things about Jimi that I find set him apart from Mr. Clapton. On Saturday, Anthony will be posting another visual music, capping off his comeback tour trifecta. Please come back to normal posting Anthony; Please, I’m Begging YOU!!!! Okay, my desperation is just making me seem, well, desperate, on to Josh. I am forcing Josh to post a guess the lyric on Sunday and he doesn’t even know it yet, *evil laugh* Oh, and on Saturday, I will do my best to post a lyricist of the day, if I get to the Clapton response tonight.

My Clapton response was actually made easier by this link which proves that the end of the world is upon us. Read: http://www.nme.com/news/nme/47866. Two question: Why? and uh… Clapton, seriously, Why? Anthony also pointed out to me that a song like this was already released. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaYGAT-TuO8. If the album is anything like this it will be fantastic.

Court Links: Elvis Hair

13 Oct

First, let me apologize for the lack of posting over the last few days. As many of you may be aware, we are college students over here at the Music Court and unfortunately, mid-term’s are here and studying/essay writing is taking up the majority of our time. Well, I promise you that for today, along with this post, there will be at least two other posts by the other jesters over here. Josh will be posting his defense for Eric Clapton on the poll and Anthony will be making his glorious re-return to the blog with a visual music (Hooray!).

We will be doing our best over the next few days to provide you with some awesome music coverage and I hope that soon enough I will be able to put another lyricist of the top 100 list and write a review of the new Mountain Goats CD (if I ever get around to listening to it). Yet, while you wait for Josh’s and Anthony’s post here is an interesting link: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20311751,00.html

For the small fee of around 100,000 dollars a clump of Elvis’s hair can be yours. Why? Well, for me I would like it for my combination clone researching where I plan on combining Elvis with Jim Morrison. Why would you want Elvis’s hair. Comment below.

Bob Dylan

No, Bob Dylan (or Robert Zimmerman) is not on the list, nor, would anyone have the guts to put him on the list. But, as much as I am a huge fan of one of the most celebrated figures of music history, I will not be fooled. Let me educate some who do not know. Zimmerman was born in Duluth, Minnesota, where his parents Abram Zimmerman and Betty Stone originally started raising Bob in a small, tight-knit, Jewish community. Listen to Bob Dylan’s southern twang. Listen to his almost incomprehensible croon. I will be among the many Dylan fans who know this fact but keep it hidden inside. That is not his voice. Yet, after years of performing with it and talking with it in daily life, who am I to say that he has not adopted it as his voice.

Here is the list: http://www.spinner.com/2009/10/07/fake-accents?icid=main|main|dl2|link3|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spinner.com%2F2009%2F10%2F07%2Ffake-accents
