New Format and an Offer

15 Jul

                 New

Time constraints have caught up to me and this is the summer. I can only believe how things will be when I get back to school and have an internship and work and a schedule and no time at all. Of course I am talking about the amount of posts per day. I wish I could say that I had someone posting with me but, for daily updates, I am all alone. So, for now there will be an alternating daily post on top of links of the day. Yes, song of the day and lyric of the day will therefore be switching spots in the weekly carousel. It is unfortunate and I apologize but I just do not have the time and I am not the person to write a post with half the effort.

What does this mean? Well, I am looking for some help. Two potential offers for any readers that happen to also be obsessed with music and alright writers. For job #1 I am looking for somebody to split the daily updates with me. This would involve doing a song of the day or lyric of the day daily. Said person can, of course, participate in other sections if they would like. Job #2 would involve tracking music news. I would love to start a new section of just straight music news. This person would post the music news of the day every day. I shall be therefore keeping both the links of the day, the 60’s band of the week, one post daily, and various other site posts and stuff. The jobs are unpaid and would basically be for enjoyment and maybe we can all together make the Music Court even bigger.

If anyone is interested in any of the two and feels that they fill these qualities outlined above please e-mail me at musiccourt@gmail.com. In the e-mail include the job you want to do, one writing sample, and a short little passage of why you really want to write for the blog. I am looking forward to your responses.

New Writer! New Category!

Josh Baum hard at work

Josh Baum hard at work

It is an exciting early early morning here at The Music Court for a new writer, Josh Baum, has joined the court and is presently being hazed by the rest of the Court staff (that being myself.) As you may see, his eager debut of Song of the Day is posted and running.

Josh is going to be a Junior at UMass Amherst and I will let him tell you other interesting bits of information about himself on his first post in the new category Twenty Years and Counting where Josh is going to focus on more recent music from 90’s to 2000’s to futuristic synthesizer tunes (because I apparently am still living in the 1960’s). I will let him describe to you what he will offer in his post. Basically, I have become an after thought!

Look for Josh’s posts and his contribution the blog and the new section.

Welcome to the Court!

Today’s Thoughts

11 Jun

Still recovering from the amazing concert last night. I want to thank all of the new viewers of the blog for checking out the review and the blog as a whole. It means a lot and I hope you all check back soon for the daily updates of the Lyric and Song of the day, as well as, more concert reviews, new bands, and 60’s band.

Today, between attempting to fix my forever flawed golf game and going to see my New York Mets tonight I will be posting the new lyric and song of the day after the game. But I cannot go the whole day without giving you some lyrics. So, from Clapton’s vocal chords himself yesterday I bring you some fantastic lyrics from Big Maceo’s “Tough Luck Blues,” from 1941.

“I used to have a car
An he was painted white an black
I couldn’t keep up the payments
An the man, he took it back”

Clapton and Winwood’s version was amazing and for those who will have the pleasure of seeing the show on the remaining thirteen dates are in for a treat if he plays it again.

Also, through my usual online searching I came across an interesting article. Jeff Beck, who replaced Clapton in The Yardbirds after he left due to musical differences, was actually asked to become a member of The Rolling Stones in 1974 after Mick Taylor quit. “I thought, ‘This is a life of booze and women. Who needs that?’ So I caught the next plane out,” Beck said. Ronnie Wood, former Faces musician, took his place and is still a rolling stone today. Interesting read. Check it out:

Upcoming Week

7 Jun

Look for the week ahead to provide you with some great music coverage. Tuesday will hold the second installment of 60’s band of the week. (If you have not gotten a chance go click on the 60’s band of the week category and read up on 13th Floor Elevators). On Wednesday I will be heading off to see Eric Clapton and Stevie Winwood at the Izod Center for their first concert kicking off their multiple city tour. You shall be getting a review either Wednesday or The Week Ahead Thursday. This on top of normal lyrics/songs/links of the day and possibly a brand spanking new section of a New Band Profile over at the New Band Palace (Remember if you have a band post your myspace/web site link under the comments section in the New Band Palace and you may very well be profiled on the MAIN PAGE (prestigious, ha!)

As of now it is a particularly Lazy Sunday. So enjoy yourself and check back in a bit for some lyrics and a song of the day. Enjoy the Sunday!
