Being an avid long-time listener of Metric, Emily Haines is back and is not messing around with the Metric Zoé with July Talk Tour. The Art of Doubt album is not only iconic, but it shows a different chapter of their music and how they have shape shifted in their new identity. With Metric’s sound in sync on stage and Haines’ nonstop energy running back and forth on stage, rock and roll with their own twist is a standard for their performance. The album has standout tracks such as Now or Never Now, which highlight Metric’s signature writing style. With lyrics such as “It hurts to turn the radio on, Stamina’s gone. Because every time I start to move on, Keep hearing that song”. The sound quality and aesthetic of the set of songs encompassed a part of a time capsule tribute, prevailing for the future, and co-existing with the audience. The theme of the idea of dystopia, the state of our country, and heartfelt sentiments was expressed as well. Haines took the audience back in time with classics such as Gimme Sympathy, Gold Guns Girls, and Dead Disco.Thank you, Metric, for celebrating with me more than my suppressed teenage angst, but a night filled with rock and roll, memories of the past, and so much more.
Did they play “Monster Hospital”. Love that song, after first hearing it on a playlist on Spotify from the guitarist from the brilliant Gengahr, John Victor. Maybe not a typical Metric track, but it rocks!
