Following Voyce Memos’s first single Division and latest release of Indifferent, Catching Me In Stride showcases the musical talents of Richard Borger, lead producer/audio engineer, drummer, Stephen Mokulis, and multi-instrumentalist/producer, Akash Gupta. Hailing from Houston, TX, what started off as a casual side project soon evolved into a strong cohesive band with an intentional sound. With different musical traits evolving from track to track on the album, one can get a sense of evolution on the album itself. The beginning of Catching Me In Stride starts off slow with reflective tracks and very organic in musical structure. As you get towards the middle of the album, a variety of riffs, vocal styles, and tone shifts into a different tone. When pulling references to draw similarities to in the music sphere, the bands that come to mind include The 1975, Radiohead, and Phoenix. With a strong album that highlights the different sides to their sound throughout, listeners should mark down Voyce Memos as a band to watch for 2019.
