Upon first listening to Vestiges by Healing Spells, the first thing listeners will pick up on is the ambient vibes and sound that is within their music. Every synth and xylophone beat meshes into a new world along the album. The song Sanctuary in particular has alot of ambient and sampled beats throughout. The collection is the solo project of the electronica music producer Past Lives. The diverse sampling of sound showcases an exploration of sorts that can be connected to the experimental artists Four Tet, Gold Panda, and OneOhTrix Point Never. Combined with Past Live’s love of nature and soundscapes, without a doubt intertwining it in his music has him stand out with the exposure to his time in India which heavily drove the mental and spiritual journey he took for this album. For anyone wanting to take a listen to experimental and electronica music that is unconventional and soothing, Vestiges should be at the top of your list to play next.
