5 Nov

Post Death Soundtrack brings the level of spookiness in their latest single Chosen Sons when listeners listen to their music they will hear the influence of 80s/90s influences of heavy metal and ambient rock within the sound of their music. “You are the chosen son” is a powerful lyrics within the song adding an element of prophesying the song’s message. The song and album pay homage to political messaging and the meaning of sacrifice. Comparably the band sounds similar to Kiss, Underoath, and Spooky Black. With the carefully crafted sound, lyrical and musical choice, and the overall sound its quite clear Post Death Soundtrack specifically knows the strength of their sound and the impact they will have in the future.

FIELDS AMAZE and other sTRANGE music Showcases Patrick Grant’s Revival Skills In Latest Album

5 Nov

A re-release of an album created 20 years ago points to the newness of something once created and spun into a different light. A wide variety of musical instruments line up on the album with no importance specifically set on one particular sound, but together forming a masterpiece. The album is a mixture of the old revived tracks and new ones. This adds a level of interest that’s higher than presenting a remixed collection. The release of this album alongside the sound complements the compilations of A Sequence of Waves in 2017 and Tilted Across in 2016 The musical arrangement on FIELDS AMAZE and other sTRANGE music  is the most fascinating quality about this collection of music. It mixes the simplicity of minimal classical music, allusions to the 1970s and 1980s video games, and the soundtracks of horror films. Patrick Grant’s musical abilities will not only impress listeners, but just give them another thing to love about this revamped and reconstructed piece of work.

Weakened At The Asylum Shows The Power Of Rock Opera From Midwest Soul Xchange

1 Nov

When you combine politics and rock opera anthems, you get Midwest Soul Xchange. Midwest Soul Xchange sets the scene of their rock opera story by following certain characters who experience the Flint Michigan water crisis. Growing up around The Who, Pink Floyd, and classic rock, they draw heavily on these influences within their music. When one thinks of such a heavy piece like this, one’s mind goes to think about musicals. Fifteen Parts sets up the lyrical narrative with metaphors and lyrics that create detailed visual imagery for listeners to come up with in their mind. Narrowing in on the emotional feelings of this tragedy and bringing in positive references to “headphones filled with dreams” gives the characters optimism in the opera. Two musical artists that Midwest Soul Xchange reminds me of include The Decemberists and Jersey Boys. They both are very effective at storytelling through lyrics and are able to mix it up with power ballads and monologues within their music. For an unique genre of rock opera, most listeners will find that these comparisons are where their similarities are the most. Alongside the main subject being centered around the Flint Michigan water crisis, the band does an amazing job of intertwining storytelling, informing, and the significance of perceived normalcy in times of tragedy. Not only does Weakened At The Asylum point out significant political heaviness, but it also sheds light on the struggles of these characters and their point of view. 2018 is the year of possibilities and they show we can be the first to make the change and to not wait.

Journey To The Centre of Yourself Showcases A Chronological Story

1 Nov

Most people have online archives documenting their teenage angst and coming of age stories, but H! documents alot of his through Journey To The Centre of Yourself. A song on this album that stands out is Chasing What You Don’t Want and Life’s Too ShortChasing What You Don’t Want goes over heartbreak, but keeps it in a matter of fact way, rather than telling too much of a melancholy tale. Life’s Too Short is not only an emotional track, but one that promotes hope through life’s struggles. The electronic tune in the background of this song adds even more layers to the musical scenery. “These are the words that I’d go back and tell myself don’t let go and savor every breath you take along the way”. This packs an inspirational punch in light of being trapped and struggling through certain periods of your life. Alongside the creative license H! takes in constructing his music, his album cover of storyboard frames he illustrates gives listeners a new level of seeing an artist connect to their work.

Into The Light By Crooked Flower Wows Me Into Nostalgia

29 Oct

Anyone who takes a listen to Crooked Flower should be ready to fall in love with vocalist Angie Dang’s voice and the power anthems of the guitar, bass, and drums of classic rock. The band’s overall sound is a perfect mixture of 90s rock, funk, and a dash of pop punk. The album, released intentionally on Canada Liberation Day makes an additional statement about the band and their strong beliefs. Let You Go is a powerful song on their album reminding me of Natalie Imbruglia, Linn Berggren, and Sixpence None The Richer all in one. With a variety of themes from track to track, Into The Light showcases the multi-dimensional sound Crooked Flower delivers. Originally starting out with Daniel Erik and Dan Ingberman, the band evolved with the joining of Patrick Shields and Angie Dang. With the raw and organic sound of music sometimes being overshadowed by auto tuning and editing, Crooked Flower keeps their sound real, simplistic, and characterizes everything found in a band that has their music speak for themselves.
