Paul Maged displays his feelings with an unfiltered and unapologetic view in his latest single The Resistance. With lyrics specifically concentrating on Trump and how his presidency has affected the nation dominates the single, its merely a statement to what our world is going through right now. While most listeners would agree politics and music should not mix, Maged carries his harshness into this single in an unapologetic way. Originally set to come out as part of a final EP in a trilogy, Maged chose to release it sooner due to the political season and the strong feelings associated with our nation. From being nominated for a pre grammy for writing No More Love Tonight to being a finalist for the Great American Song contest for Images, he shows a socially conscious side within The Resistance.

FIELDS AMAZE and other sTRANGE music Showcases Patrick Grant’s Revival Skills In Latest Album

A re-release of an album created 20 years ago points to the newness of something once created and spun into a different light. A wide variety of musical instruments line up on the album with no importance specifically set on one particular sound, but together forming a masterpiece. The album is a mixture of the old revived tracks and new ones. This adds a level of interest that’s higher than presenting a remixed collection. The release of this album alongside the sound complements the compilations of A Sequence of Waves in 2017 and Tilted Across in 2016 The musical arrangement on FIELDS AMAZE and other sTRANGE music  is the most fascinating quality about this collection of music. It mixes the simplicity of minimal classical music, allusions to the 1970s and 1980s video games, and the soundtracks of horror films. Patrick Grant’s musical abilities will not only impress listeners, but just give them another thing to love about this revamped and reconstructed piece of work.

Weakened At The Asylum Shows The Power Of Rock Opera From Midwest Soul Xchange

When you combine politics and rock opera anthems, you get Midwest Soul Xchange. Midwest Soul Xchange sets the scene of their rock opera story by following certain characters who experience the Flint Michigan water crisis. Growing up around The Who, Pink Floyd, and classic rock, they draw heavily on these influences within their music. When one thinks of such a heavy piece like this, one’s mind goes to think about musicals. Fifteen Parts sets up the lyrical narrative with metaphors and lyrics that create detailed visual imagery for listeners to come up with in their mind. Narrowing in on the emotional feelings of this tragedy and bringing in positive references to “headphones filled with dreams” gives the characters optimism in the opera. Two musical artists that Midwest Soul Xchange reminds me of include The Decemberists and Jersey Boys. They both are very effective at storytelling through lyrics and are able to mix it up with power ballads and monologues within their music. For an unique genre of rock opera, most listeners will find that these comparisons are where their similarities are the most. Alongside the main subject being centered around the Flint Michigan water crisis, the band does an amazing job of intertwining storytelling, informing, and the significance of perceived normalcy in times of tragedy. Not only does Weakened At The Asylum point out significant political heaviness, but it also sheds light on the struggles of these characters and their point of view. 2018 is the year of possibilities and they show we can be the first to make the change and to not wait.
