Eddy Yang Brings All The Grit & Angst On In The City Track

16 Mar

Gear up your headphones and be ready to without a doubt dance along the sidewalk. Eddy Yang in his A New City EP shows not only strong vocals as a singer, but the instrumentals work together as well on his EP. From start to finish, it flows in a cohesive and well arranged way. With a mixture of self reflecting and the theme of being on a quest of self discovery, Yang not only delivers through his strong lyrics, but closing your eyes and listening, he hits on all the right emotions. With the mixture of the beat sounds as well, it puts the music in the category of rock, but also has the elements of soul and hip-hop. When thinking of bands that are similar, I would reference Goo Goo Dolls, Smashing Pumpkins, and The Verve for the rock elements of his music and City & Color, Conor Oberst, and Sonic Youth for the punk and grit influences.

Damon Mitchell’s Song License Plate Fuels The Story of Love On Album Elise

5 Mar

With Damon Mitchell’s folk-toned lyrics in the song License Plate on album Elise, and the accompanying violin instrumental, the combination sets the scene for Mitchell’s sound. Distinct lyrics such as “time was not my friend” and “did you have to go?”, sets the scene for a narrative of looking back into time. Listeners hearing this single will think of situations that did not work out, perhaps for the best or worse of it all. The overall tone of the album Elise is a mixture of a heartfelt journal entry and a broken heart. The vocal talents of Mitchell could be compared to a modern-day Burt Bacharach and is a signature style that listeners recognize and appreciate. Overall, the most distinct observation about this album is it tells a story from one track to another, without sacrificing the loss of varying sound as you hit play and go through the songs.

Miss Cactus & The Desert Showcases Alondra Ramirez Ladd’s Tropical Anthem In Music Video Titled Dating School

5 Mar

Miss Cactus & The Desert brings their sunburst of energy first and foremost in the music video Dating School. The environment that lead singer Alondra Ramirez Ladd creates is one that is mixed with nostalgia, dreams, and a stylistic 1970s vibe. The thematic elements of womanhood, strength, and pops of color all are noticeable and add even more of a stylistic dimension to the setting. Between the elements of tropical dance, the self assured attitude of Miss Cactus & The Desert, and the whimsical world that they create, listeners will get wrapped up in it. With lyrics such as “I’m retired from dating school, where I was just dealing with a whole bunch of fools” this further exposes Ladd’s comments about her upbringing and how she further hints to her rejecting advice that she has been given her whole life. The exciting things about this video are too numerous to list out, but listeners will quickly realize that with the upcoming release of the EP Oasis, Miss Cactus & The Desert has turned the page to something greater than your standard music video.

Metric, 0219

Being an avid long-time listener of Metric, Emily Haines is back and is not messing around with the Metric Zoé with July Talk Tour. The Art of Doubt album is not only iconic, but it shows a different chapter of their music and how they have shape shifted in their new identity. With Metric’s sound in sync on stage and Haines’ nonstop energy running back and forth on stage, rock and roll with their own twist is a standard for their performance. The album has standout tracks such as Now or Never Now, which highlight Metric’s signature writing style. With lyrics such as “It hurts to turn the radio on, Stamina’s gone. Because every time I start to move on, Keep hearing that song”. The sound quality and aesthetic of the set of songs encompassed a part of a time capsule tribute, prevailing for the future, and co-existing with the audience. The theme of the idea of dystopia, the state of our country, and heartfelt sentiments was expressed as well. Haines took the audience back in time with classics such as Gimme SympathyGold Guns Girls, and Dead Disco.Thank you, Metric, for celebrating with me more than my suppressed teenage angst, but a night filled with rock and roll, memories of the past, and so much more.

Post Death Soundtrack Brings Dark Vibes With Album It Will Come Out Of Nowhere

19 Feb

Hailing from Vancouver and encompassing the world of metal and experimental rock, Post Death Soundtrack makes audiences excited to hear more from their album It Will Come Out of Nowhere. Releasing their single Chosen Sons earlier in the year, Post Death Soundtrack has been busy working for this new release of music. Listeners will hear the specific sound that they use in their songs alongside the musical instruments they use to create a layer of atmospheric ambience. With guitars, bass, synthesizers, and other sounds, their instrument choice is intentional. Originally in the band’s infancy when it was solely Kenneth Buck and Steve Moore, a lot of their music was political focused and over the top sarcasm accompanied the tracks as well. Their sound is best compared to Skinny Puppy, Ministry, and Portishead. The sounds of Bowie, 70s Rock, and psychedelic electronica all further in describing Post Death Soundtrack.  Standout songs from this newly released album include Ramona Hills and Fallout.  For those wanting to listen to the dark and grunge inspired sounds of this band, grab your headphones and take a listen. Be prepared to be transported to another dimension filled with all that your electronica metal psychedelic heart could ever want.
